The RNI diary of Michael
Downing for this period Friday 26 March 1971 There is a tender today, but no change of
DJs, only some new records from, among others, Olivia Newton-John, Three Dog Night,
Cliff Richard, Yvonne Elliman, Dawn, Brass Monkey, Jumbo, Emmitt Rhodes (both
"Fresh as a daisy" and "Live till you die"), Elvis
Presley and Engelbert Humperdinck. Today's programmes are: 6.00 Alan West 9.00 Jan Van Veen 12.00 Joost de Draaier 14.00 Ferry Maat 16.00 Crispian St John 18.00 Alan West 21.00 Stevi Merike 24.00 - 2.00 Dave Rogers Saturday 27 March 1971 Programmes as yesterday, except for Joost
de Draaier from 12.00 to 16.00 with the Top 50 and tips. Sunday 28 March 1971 Today's Dutch service has Joost de
Draaier at 9.00 and Ferry Maat at 12.00 until the start of the English
service at 15.00 with the Top 50, presented by Dave Rogers this week.
Therefore Crispian St John hosts the midnight to 2.00am show today. Monday 29 March 1971 Programmes are the same as last Friday.
Alan West is very frustrated at not having enough requests for his programme.
He had run out last Thursday and had hoped to be able to return to Holland to
get some more whilst on shore leave, but there has been no tender yet. Tuesday 30 March 1971 A tender at last comes out and brings
back Tony Allan and Martin Kayne, but takes off Alan West and Stevi Merike.
Also back on board is Kurt Baer the engineer. Programmes today are: 6.00 Crispian St
John 9.00 Jan Van Veen 12.00 Joost de
Draaier 14.00 Ferry Maat 16.00 Crispian St John 18.00 Tony Allan 21.00 Dave Rogers 24.00 - 2.00 Martin Kayne For some reason Hilversum is now being
referred to as "Little England". Tony Allan has brought back with
him a craze for licquorice allsorts and has a spot for them sitting in for
Alan West at 19.30. Wednesday 31 March 1971 Programmes as yesterday, except that Tony
Allan is back on the breakfast show from 6.00 to 9.00. The mystery of there
being two Tony Allan hitpicks this week is solved - the other DJs picked one
for him when the tender could not come out, but his official hitpick this
week is "I don't know how to love him" by Yvonne Elliman. Thursday 1 April 1971 Record Mirror reports that Radio Veronica
has lost its court case against RNI. Ex-RNI news - Michael Lindsay is now
working for BBC Radio Birmingham." |
