Botch-a-me. Maybe
Tomorrow, Maybe Tonight van Earth and Fire is deze
week de treiterschijf. Zowel
1973. |

The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week in February 1973 Many of the most
noteworthy events in the life of RNI happened on Saturday and 24 February
1973 was one of them, in this case the anchor chain broke and the station was
forced to leave the air as the Mebo 2 was drifting
into Dutch territorial waters. Don Allen closed the station down at 24.45.
Fortunately the situation was brought under control and RNI was able to
return to international waters and resume broadcasts. This was,
understandably, not a pleasant experience for RNI's new International service
DJ, Steve King, who had joined the station in mid-February 1973 to replace
Mark Slate. Steve would only serve one period on board, before he left. RNI
had five full International service DJs at the time, although this had been
boosted by Rob Eden over Christmas 1972 and, during the early part of 1973,
Ian Anderson, who had been on board the Mebo 2 on
and off since the end of 1972, started to present more programmes. Mike Ross had
presented the International Top 30 show from 20.00 to 22.00 on Friday 23
February 1973 and the chart was starting to resemble the UK Top 30 more and
more. There were a few records down the bottom of the chart that were not UK
hits - including "I can't move no mountains" by Blood Sweat and
Tears, a new entry at number 30. There was no
change to the Dutch service schedule in February 1973 and this was: 6.00 Buitengaats
(live with Marc van Amstel or Gerard Smit) 9.00 Branding 10.00 Peter Holland 12.00 Tony Berk 14.00 Ferry Maat 16.00 Driemaster
(live with Leo van der Goot
or Alfred Lagarde) 18.00 - 20.00 Nico
Steenbergen Hans Molenaar, Hans ten Hooge and Dick de
