De hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer is het
Bouzouki lied van Vicky Leandros op nummer 27. “CCR in disguise” komt binnen
vinden we Go like Elijah van dezelfde zangeres. Ciska Peters deelt met het
RNI luisterpubliek haar vooruitziende blik met het nummer Zo zal deze zomer
zijn, de treiterschijf deze week. Het prachtige Giving it all away van Roger

The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week in April 1973 Having survived
the anchor chain break in February and the great storm of 2 April, RNI was in
fine form by the last week of April 1973. They had, admittedly, lost Vader
Abraham to Radio Veronica in April 1973, but would soon find other stars to
present Dutch music programmes. They still had
Andre Van Duin on Sunday and, from April through to
the beginning of November 1973, there would be no
changes in the main DJ team on the Dutch service. The weekday programme schedule at this time was: 6.00 Buitengaats
(Gerard Smit or Marc van Amstel
live from the Mebo 2) 9.00 Non-stop 10.00 Peter Holland 12.00 Tony Berk 14.00 Ferry Maat 16.00 Driemaster
(Leo van der Goot or Dick
de Graaf live from the Mebo
2) 18.00 - 20.00 Nico
Steenbergen Hans ten Hooge and Hans Molenaar
remained with RNI, mainly as newsreaders, but presenting programmes
occasionally. On Saturday, the
Super Top 50 show was broadcast from 12.00 to 15.00, hosted by Ferry Maat, which was followed by the Muziek
Parade show with Tony Berk and then Driemaster. Since 21 April 1973 the Saturday edition of Driemaster included RNI's new tip chart, the Troef 20, and on 28 April 1973 this was presented by Leo
van der Goot, who was on
board that weekend and in his week of presenting Driemaster. The International
service was also in good shape and, temporarily, had increased its DJ
contingent to 6, following the recruitment of Graham Gill in March 1973 and
the effective promotion to full DJ of Ian Anderson at about the same time,
although Ian had been on board the Mebo 2 on and
off since late 1972. Mike Ross, Don Allen, Brian McKenzie and Arnold Layne
made up the rest of the team at the end of April 1973. Ian Anderson
presented the International Top 30 from 20.00 to 22.00 on Friday 27 April
1973, which formed the main playlist for the International service for the
coming week. David Bowie was this week's number 1 with "Drive In
Saturday". The International Top 30 was based on the official UK Top 30,
but had a number of records this week which were not UK hits, but were by
acts who had had significant success in earlier years, including the Bee Gees
(the highest new entry at no. 22 with "Saw a new morning"), the Tremeloes at no. 24 with "Ride on", the Spencer
Davis Group at no. 26 with "Catch you on the rebop"
and Wilson Pickett at no. 29 with "Mr Magic
Man". Also in the Top 30 this week were two records that were not
official hits, but were much played on RNI in this period - "Brown
baby" by Billy Paul at no. 12 and "Bitter Bad" by Melanie at
no. 13. One of the most
played records of all in April 1973 was "Tu te reconnaitras" by
Anne-Marie David, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest. This was first
played by RNI in the week or so before the Contest itself, particularly by
Marc van Amstel on Buitengaats.
So it was no surprise to RNI listeners when it won the contest. |
