The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this week in 1974 The main change in the programming of the
Dutch service during April 1974 was that Marc van Amstel
moved from being one of the on board DJs and newsreaders to recording programmes on tape in the studio in Bussum,
sitting in for the other DJs when they were on holiday or otherwise not
available to record their programmes. This meant
that the daily live programme, Buitengaats,
between 18.00 and 20.00 was presented on alternate weeks by Erik Post and
Gerard Smit and this remained the case until the
end of transmissions on 31 August 1974. Another change in April 1974 was that the
technici now had a kanskaart,
the first of which had been "Hallelujah" by Chi Coltrane in the
first week of April. Apart from the presenters of Buitengaats, there was no change to the main weekday programme schedule on the Dutch service, which was
as follows: 6.00 Dick de Graaf 9.00 Branding 10.00 Ted Bouwens 12.00 Tony Berk 14.00 Ferry Maat 16.00 Leo van der Goot (Driemaster) 18.00 - 20.00 Buitengaats (Erik Post or
Gerard Smit) Ferry Maat
presented the Super Top 50 show as usual on Saturday 20 April, whilst the Troef 20 later that day was hosted by Dick de Graaf. On the International service, the DJ team
was still Don Allen, Brian McKenzie, Graham Gill, Robin Banks and Roger Kent,
with Rob Eden presenting the Contemporary Music show early on Monday morning.
Graham Gill presented the Toppers 20 show at 20.00 on Friday 19 April. Sunny
was at number 1 with "Doctor's orders" and the highest new entry
was "Rock'n'roll suicide" by David Bowie
at number 13. The International service Top 10 LPs for
this week are interesting, ranging from "Ol'
Blue Eyes is back" by Frank Sinatra to "Here come the warm
jets" by Eno. Also included were albums by Jim
Croce, Love Unlimited Orchestra, Geordie, Colin Blunstone,
the Doobie Brothers and Kayak, as well as
"Seven secrets" by Fruupp, which has been
rather forgotten nowadays, and "Richard Myhill"
by Richard Myhill, who would have a hit in the UK
and the Netherlands four years later with "It takes two to tango".
By then, of course, RNI would be a distant memory......... |
