Op 19 komt The cat
crept in van Mud de Top 50 binnen als hoogste nieuwe. Daarmee staat Mud nu
met 3 platen in de Top 50. Op 41 verwelkomen we het vrolijke Run to the
sunshine van Leo Unger in de Top 50. Heel voorzichtig schuift de kleine witte
duif van George Baker de Top 50 binnen op nummer 49. Die heeft nog een lange
weg te vliegen. Erotische pop vind je in de Troef 20 met Larry Cotton en
Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin. Een plaat, die duidelijk anders is dan de
rest van de Troef 20, komt binnen op nummer 10 : The Entertainer van Marvin

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for February 1974 Ferry Maat was
on holiday in the middle of May 1974 and the Top 50 was presented in his
absence by Dick de Graaf on 11 May 1974. In the
last five months of RNI's broadcasts the Troef 20
had a number of different DJs, but on 11 May 1974 it was presented by Leo van
der Goot, for the first
time since 6 April 1974. On the International service Graham Gill
was coming to the end of his time with RNI, but was the DJ for the Toppers 20
show from 20.00 to 22.00 on Friday 10 May 1974. Number 1 was "Sugar Baby
Love" by the Rubettes and the Smash Play was
"I'll have to say I love you in a song" by Jim Croce - both well
remembered tracks - but there were some more obscure records being played on
RNI's International service in the week from 11 May 1974. Number 12 in the
Toppers 20 was "Shang a lang song" by
Ruby Pearl and the Dreamboats, which was not an official UK Top 50 hit, and
"Going nowhere" by Neil Sedaka at number
15 is not amongst his best remembered singles from the period. Other records played a lot in the week
commencing 11 May 1974 were: Philadelphia Flyers - Hot Line CCS - Hurricane comin' Linda Kendrick - Sympathy for the devil Allan Clarke - Sideshow Salena
Jones - Love me now Strawbs
- Hero and heroine Arnold Corns - Hang on to yourself as
well as records by Executive Suite and Dennis Linde,
the titles of which I cannot recall. The International service also had a Top
10 albums in 1974, which were not ranked in any particular order. In the week
commencing 10 May 1974 these included "See see the sun" by Kayak,
"Unborn Child" by Seals and Crofts (a popular act on RNI in 1973
and 1974, even though they never had a big hit in Holland or the UK) and,
curiously, "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles,
which was then not quite 7 years old. |
