zien we Steely Dan binnenkomen met Rikki don’t loose that number.

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this week in 1974 With two and a half months to go, there
were no changes to the main weekday Dutch programmes
in June 1974, which were: 6.00 Dick de Graaf 9.00 John de Mol Junior (Branding) 10.00 Ted Bouwens 12.00 Tony Berk 14.00 Ferry Maat 16.00 Leo van der Goot 18.00
- 20.00 Eric Post or Gerard Smit (Buitengaats, live from the Mebo
2) Marc van Amstel
was based on land, filling in on various programmes
when the regular presenter was away. Newsreaders by this time were Herman de
Bruin, Peter Jager and Gerard Reitsma.
Ferry Maat presented the Top 50 on Saturday
afternoon and also had a weekly Soul Show, which turned out to be the longest
running programme from the whole of the RNI period.
The Troef 20 was on Saturday and, on 15 June 1974,
was presented by Gerard Smit. On the International service, the DJ team
in June 1974 consisted of Brian McKenzie, Don Allen, Robin Banks, Roger Kent
and Jason Wolfe. Jason replaced Graham Gill, who had left RNI in May 1974.
With the exception of Robin Banks, all of the DJs had special programmes once a week - Brian McKenzie had the Rock'n'Roll Special from 22.00 to 24.00 on Friday, Don
Allen had the Country'n'Western Jamboree on
Saturday, Roger Kent presented the Hitback Show
from 20.00 to 22.00 on Sunday and this was followed by the Request Show from
22.00 to 24.00 presented by Jason Wolfe. If the DJ was due to be on shore
leave, an edition of the programme was pre-recorded
to be played in their absence. The Toppers 20 show from 20.00 to 22,00 on Friday evening was presented by Don Allen on Friday
14 June 1974 and was based on the UK chart. Only "Hot line" by the
Philadelphia Flyers at no. 15 was not a UK hit. The records in the Toppers 20
were played a lot on the International service at this time, along with the
Smash Play, which followed the news at the top of each hour. Smash Play in
the week from 14 June to 20 June 1974 was "Train of thought" by
Cher. There were also the featured LPs, which this week included long
forgotten albums by Bill Wyman ("Monkey grip"), Andy Williams
("The way we were"), Florence Warner ("Florence Warner"),
Herb Alpert ("You smile the song begins") and Liza Minnelli
("Live at the Winter Gardens"). |
