Het prachtige Let
your hair hang down van Catapult is de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer op 30. Rock

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this period The RNI Super Hit 50 for the week
commencing 29 June 1974 was unusual in that all 50 records were also hits in
the Veronica Top 40. In most weeks there were some records in the Top 50 that
got no higher than the Tipparade on Veronica, but
29 June 1974 was an exception. It didn’t last long, however, as discs by the Trammps, Ivan Heylen and Pim Maas all entered the Top 50 the following week, but
never made the Veronica Top 40. Pim Maas’s “What
makes the world” didn’t even make the Tipparade. Marc van Amstel
was by now the regular host for the Troef 20 and
indeed presented the programme on 29 June 1974. On the International Service, the end of
June 1974 had the same DJ team as at the start of the month – Brian McKenzie,
Don Allen, Robin Banks, Roger Kent and Jason Wolfe – although there would be
a final change to the team in July. Robin Banks presented the Toppers 20 show
from 20.00 to 22.00 on 28 June 1974, which had “Wall Street Shuffle” by 10CC
at No.1. All of the 20 records in this week’s chart were also hits in the
official UK chart. However, the most noteworthy record was at No. 16 this
week. “Central Park Arrest” by Thunderthighs was a
minor hit in the UK, making only No.30, but rose as high as No. 3 on the RNI
Toppers 20 and was played a lot on the station in late June and early July
1974. The song was written by Lynsey de Paul, who
had a hit herself at the time with “Ooh I do”. Other hits in the Toppers 20
this week that were not hits in Holland included “Man in black” by Cozy
Powell at No. 8 and “Too big” by Suzi Quatro at No. 20, both follow ups to big international
hits. In 1974 RNI’s International Service also
spotlighted its Top 10 albums. In the week commencing 28 June 1974 there were
actually 12 albums featured, which included some well known ones, but also
LPs by Badger, Danny McBride, Bridget St John and Marty Robbins that have all
been long forgotten. The Smash Play this week was “Cajun Moon” by JJ Cale. |
