Paul McCartney met
Band on the run is deze week de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer op nummer 15.
Peter Koelewijn komt binnen op nummer 41 met Robbie, een plaatje dat gaat
over zijn vriend Rob Out? Na het grote succes met “vur heur” probeert Ivan
Heylen het nu met de Werkmens, nieuw binnen op nummer 43 deze week. De
Generaal van Lenny Kuhr is deze week de treiterschijf. Het plaatje gaat over
Rinus Michels, bijgenaamd “De Generaal”. Patricia Paay komt nieuw binnen op
nummer 10 in de Troef 20 met Lovemaker. Ze was toen lid van de formatie
Heart.

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this week in July 1974 By 6 July 1974 RNI had less than two
months left, although we didn't know it at the time. The introduction of the
Anti-Zeezender Wet depended on Minister van Doorn giving his answer on Radio Veronica's request for
airtime as the VOO and that had not yet happened (it would be in the evening
of 19 July that Veronica would receive the fateful letter). So, for the time
being, it was business as usual on RNI. The Super Hit 50 show had been extended
to four hours, from 12.00 to 16.00, to allow for a game of Prijsbewust (with Tony Berk) at
13.00. Ferry Maat presented the Top 50 show as
usual on 6 July 1974 and Marc van Amstel hosted the
Troef 20 later that day. On the International service, the Toppers
20 programme from 20.00 to 22.00 was presented by
Jason Wolfe on Friday 5 July, but his time with RNI would soon come to an
end, as his style of presentation was not popular with the management.
"Wall Street Shuffle" by 10CC was the number 1 and there were new
entries by Slade ("Bangin' Man") at 11,
George McCrae ("Rock your baby") at 14, Terry Jacks ("If you
go away") at 16, Wings ("Band on the run") at 17, the
Intruders ("She's a winner") at 19 and William de Vaughan ("Be
thankful for what you've got") at 20. The Smash Play was "Love of
life" by Earth and Fire. Less well remembered are some of the Top 10 LPs
of the week, which included "More than before" by the Persuasions
and "Spooky Lady's Sideshow" by Kris Kristofferson. The programmes
of the International service at the time were very much based around the Toppers
20, although I heard new records by the Righteous Brothers ("Rock'n'roll heaven"), Judge Dread, Looking Glass,
Steve Miller Band, Dolly Parton, Eagles, T.Rex
("Light of love") and even Adge Cutler
and the Wurzels during the week's programmes. |
