The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this week in 1974 With only three weeks to go before the
Anti-Zeezenderwet came into effect, it was expected
that the Mebo 2 would sail to the Mediterranean in
September to broadcast off the coast of Italy as Radio Nova International.
Indeed the International service DJs were saying this in their programmes. But there were only three weeks left for the
Dutch service. Both Dick de Graaf
and Tony Berk were on holiday during the week
commencing 10 August 1974. The programme from 6.00
to 9.00 was split into three hours, non-stop from 6.00 to 7.00, John de Mol
Junior from 7.00 to 8.00 and Marc van Amstel from
8.00 to 9.00. Berk in Uitvoering
from 12.00 to 14.00 was presented by Marc van Amstel,
although Tony Berk had recorded the Prijs Bewust sections from
13.00 each day to play in his absence. Gerard Smit
was presenting Buitengaats live from 18.00 to 20.00
for most of this week. The Super Top 50 show, presented by Ferry
Maat, was now four hours from 12.00 to 16.00 on
Saturday, with an edition of Prijsbewust at 13.00
with Tony Berk. Herman de Bruin presented the Troef 20 on Saturday 10 August 1974. The International service had Don Allen,
Brian McKenzie, Robin Banks, Roger Kent and Bob Noakes
as its DJ team by now and broadcast from 20.00 to 6.00. Don Allen was the
presenter of the Toppers 20 from 20.00 to 22.00 on Friday 9 August 1974. Paul
da Vinci was at number 1 with "Your baby ain't your baby anymore" and the Smash Play was
"Nothing from nothing" by Billy Preston. The Inernational
service Top 10 LPs were a very varied collection this week, including LPs by
Jim Stafford, Bunny Sigler, Gigliola Cinquetti, the Wombles, George
McCrae and Bryan Ferry. The specialist programmes
- Brian MKenzie's Rock'n'Roll
Special, Don Allen's Country'n'Western Jamboree,
the Hitback Show with Roger Kent and the RNI
Request Show, now presented by Bob Noakes - still
formed part of the weekly schedule. |
