The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this period At the beginning of August 1971 one of
RNI’s most important programmes started – Driemaster. Hosted by the Dutch newsreaders initially for
one week each in every three weeks, the first presenters were Hans ten Hooge, Leo van der Goot and Joost Verhoeven, although Joost would
soon go permanently on land to take over the mid-morning programme,
following Jan Van Veen’s departure from RNI. Joost would be replaced on the Mebo
2 by Nico Steenbergen. Monday 9 August 1971 Leo van der Goot is hosting Driemaster this
week. Joost de Draaier is
on tour with Shocking Blue in Japan at present and his programme
from 12.00 to 14.00 s currently being presented by Joost
Verhoeven. International service programmes this evening are: 18.00 Mark Stuart 20.00 Crispian
St John 22.00 Mark Stuart 24.00 – 3.00 Dave Rogers Dave Rogers reads the news. Tuesday 10 August 1971 Tony Allan returns to RNI after a couple
of months away and takes over the 22.00 – 24.00 programme. Dave Rogers is this evening’s
newsreader. Wednesday 11 August 1971 Shock news today – both Alan West and Stevi Merike have left RNI in
order to be able to spend more time with their wives. They had apparently
asked whether they could record their programmes on
land, but this was turned down. It is not yet known who will be the new head
of the International service. Dave Rogers is tonight’s newsreader again. Thursday 12 August 1971 One of RNI’s DJs from 1970 returns to the
station today. Andy Archer comes out to the Mebo 2 having
made the journey from Zurich to Hilversum by car. Also Mark Stuart and Dave
Rogers go off on shore leave and Mike Ross returns to the Mebo
2. Leo van der Goot takes
over the Joost de Draaier
12.00 to 14.00 programme from today and Joost Verhoeven starts his week
of Driemaster. International service programmes are: 18.00 Andy Archer 20.00 Crispian
St John 22.00 Mike Ross 24.00 – 3.00 Tony Allan Mike Ross and Tony Allan are the
newsreaders. It is announced that new Sunday programmes
are expected on the International service. Friday 13 August 1971 More programme
changes – Ferry Maat’s programme
now finishes at 15.45 on Friday and the next 15 minutes is filled with a programme called “Een nul” in which Dutch footballers pick their favourite records, presented by Kees
Jansma. A mobile discotheque today features Dave
Rogers and Ferry Maat. News is read this evening by
Mike Ross and Tony Allan, but the news jingle has been dropped. |
