Er zitten een paar
leuke plaatjes tussen de nieuwe binnenkomers : The Candy Man van Sammy Davis
Jr, Lovers Bye Bye van Andeana, Dance Cleopatra van Prince Buster en Lady
Eleanor van Lindisfarne. Procol Harum staat onveranderd op nummer 1. Een van
mijn persoonlijke favorieten is deze
week treiterschijf : I like it that way van de Tremeloes.

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this period The summer of 1972 was a very good time
for RNI – a good team of DJs, no dramas and the passing of the Anti Zeezenderwet was still almost a year away. The no.1
record in the International Prediction Hit 40 on 22 July 1972 was a typical
RNI record – “Women in love” by Keith Beckingham
and the Dukes (often announced on RNI as Keith Beckingham
and the Royal Dukes) – which was only a minor hit in the Dutch service’s
Super Hit 50 and didn’t even make the Tipparade on
Veronica. This was my RNI diary for the week
commencing 22 July 1972: Saturday 22 July 1972 A mobile discotheque today features Ferry
Maat and Tony Berk.
Tonight’s programmes are: 19.00 Rob Eden (International Prediction
Hit 40) 22.00 Brian McKenzie (Reviews) 23.00 Tony Allan (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 Terry Davis 3.00 – 7.00 Mike Ross Brian McKenzie, Tony Allan, Terry Davis
and Rob Eden are the newsreaders, in that order. It is announced that Peter
Chicago is on holiday in Spain at present, but should be back on board next
Thursday. Sunday 23 July 1972 For the third day running there is a
mobile discotheque today featuring Ferry Maat and
Tony Berk. Tonight’s programmes: 19.00 Brian McKenzie (Hitback
Show) 21.00 Terry Davis (Cloud Nine) 23.00 Rob Eden (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 – 3.00 Tony Allan Ike and Tina Turner are featured in a
“cabaret spot” in the Cloud Nine programme.
Newsreaders in order are Terry Davis, Brian McKenzie, Tony Allan and Rob
Eden. Monday 24 July 1972 Apart from the Treiterschijf,
The records that I have heard most on RNI over the past week have been: Julio Iglesias – Un Canto A Galicia Prince Buster – Dance Cleopatra Bolland
and Bolland – Wait for the sun Sandy Coast – Summer Train Nico
Haak & de Paniekzaaiers
– Tango Johnny Makkers
– Zomerzon Buoys – Give up your guns Dusty Springfield – Yesterday when I was
young Frederic Francois – Je voudrais dormir pres de toi Ferry Maat has
an interview on his programme with Julio Iglesias,
which he conducts in French, having established that Julio is unable to speak
Dutch or English and Ferry can’t speak Spanish. Tonight’s programme
schedule is: 19.00 Tony Allan 21.00 Rob Eden 23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 – 3.00 Brian McKenzie Newsreaders are Rob Eden, Terry Davis,
Brian McKenzie and Tony Allan. Tuesday 25 July 1972 Tony Allan and Gerard Smit
leave on the tender and Hans ten Hooge returns.
There is a second tender in the afternoon, which brings out the winners of a Muziek Parade competition, along with Leo van der Goot, John de Mol, Rob
& Ferdi Bolland, Nico Haak, Peter Koelewijn and Peter Tetteroo.
These are all featured in the first hour and a half of Driemaster
(from 17.00 to 18.30), following which they all leave the Mebo
2. Tonight’s programmes
are: 19.00 Terry Davis 21.00 Rob Eden 23.00 Rob Eden (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 – 3.00 Brian McKenzie Newsreaders are Rob Eden, Brian McKenzie
and Terry Davis. Wednesday 26 July 1972 There is a new newsreader on the Dutch
service today called Jos Kuyer,
who does occasional bulletins during the day. Terry Davis interviews Kenny
Lynch on his programme and tonight’s programmes and newsreaders are the same as last night. Thursday 27 July 1972 Brian McKenzie, Mike Ross and Nico Steenbergen leave on the
tender and Leo van der Goot,
Paul May and Peter Chicago return. Leo van der Goot takes over Driemaster and
International service programmes are: 19.00 Paul May 21.00 Terry Davis 23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 – 3.00 Rob Eden Terry Davis, Rob Eden and Paul May read
the news. Friday 28 July 1972 There is a lot of background noise in the
first hour of the Peter Holland show today – it must be a poor quality tape. Paul May, who has taken to calling
himself “Narrow guts” for some reason, presents the Skyline programme from 3.00 to 6.00 on Saturday morning, but
otherwise the programme schedule and newsreaders
are the same as yesterday. |
