Op 19 zie je de
hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer, You’re a lady van Peter Skellern.
the greatest. De Doobie Brothers komen heel voorzichtig binnen op nummer 50
met Listen to the music.

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this period Saturday 28 October 1972 28 October 1972 was in the middle of the
period of 10 days during which RNI had no International service, following its
closure by John de Mol on Tuesday 24 October 1972. But, as you can see from
later this week, it was a short lived closure. Apart from the Treiterschijf,
the records that I have heard most on RNI over the past week have been:
Ochtendeditie
is presented this morning by Dick de Graaf, which
means that the early news broadcasts are done by Gerard Smit,
then Dick de Graaf takes over for the late morning
and Gerard Smit does the afternoon bulletins. The
Sport Show between 10.00 and 12.00 today has no DJ, just technician Jack Aalten. There is no Toekomstmuziek
programme today, just Muziek
Parade from 15.00 to 17.00. The new Smash Play is the second record after the
news at 15.00 and the DJ Kanskaarten are played in
two batches in between oldies. The LP of the Week is not played on the programme. Programmes after
21.00 this evening are: 21.00 Dick de Graaf
(announcements made only after every third record) 23.00 Ferry Maat 24.00 – 3.00 Gerard Smit Tony Berk and
Ferry Maat feature in a mobile discotheque today. Sunday 29 October 1972 The complete programme
schedule today is: 7.00 Peter Holland 9.00 Henny Spijker 11.00 Non-Stop 12.00 Tony Berk 14.00 Alfred Lagarde
(Driemaster) 17.00 Vader Abraham 19.00 Nico
Steenbergen 21.00 Dick de Graaf 23.00 Peter Holland 24.00 – 3.00 Gerard
Smit Although Alfred Lagarde
said yesterday that he had a day off today, he is featured in Driemaster after all. Gerard Smit
reads the sports news in Driemaster. The second
hour of the Tony Berk programme
features only records from the RNI Playlist this week. There are crew’s
messages broadcast between 21.00 and 21.30. Today’s mobile discotheque
features Peter Holland and Tony Berk. Monday 30 October 1972 Alfred Lagarde
is on from 23.00 to 24.00. The music in this programme
is mainly middle of the road LP tracks. Tuesday 31 October 1972 Leo van der Goot is tonight’s DJ from 23.00 to 24.00. Wednesday 1 November 1972 Ferry Maat is
on from 23.00 to 24.00 today. Thursday 2 November 1972 Gerard Smit
goes off on shore leave and Hans Molenaar returns
to the Mebo 2. Evening programmes
today are: 21.00 Hans Molenaar
(Buitengaats) 23.00 Tony Berk 24.00 – 3.00 Dick de Graaf It is reported in this week’s Record
Mirror, issued today, that all of the English speaking DJs have been sacked
because RNI’s management have had a lot of trouble with them and it is not
commercially viable to continue broadcasting in English. Terry Davis is to
resume his A-Level studies, whilst the other English speaking DJs are spread
around Europe looking for work. Arnold Layne has an advertisement in Record
Mirror offering his services in the “Situations Vacant” column. Friday 3 November 1972 Astounding developments – the Nico Steenbergen show runs from
19.00 to 20.00 and then, at 20.00, comes the return of the International
service. The three English speaking DJs came on board the Mebo
2 at about 18.30 and had 90 minutes to get a set of programmes
organised. The schedule is: 20.00 Mike Ross 22.00 Don Allen 24.00 Brian McKenzie 3.00 – 6.00 Mike Ross Mike Ross says that there will be lots of
new names and faces on the station in the coming weeks, which implies that Tony
Allan, Dave Rogers, Terry Davis and Arnold Layne will not be returning. Don
Allen is the same Don Allen who used to broadcast on Radio Caroline North.
Mike Ross also comments that, were it not for Brian McKenzie, he wouldn’t be
back on the Mebo 2, which implies that Brian has
had something to do with the reinstatement of the International service. Mike
Ross says that the International service will be around for a long time yet.
This is obviously another spot decision as the Dutch DJs were under the impression
throughout the day that they had a full evening’s programmes.
There is news on the hour from 21.00 to 3.00, read by the DJ broadcasting in
the previous hour. Then the new records that I heard on RNI
for the first time between 28 October and 3 November 1972, that were not Kanskaarten or in the RNI Playlist:
