The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this period Saturday 18 November 1972 The records that I have heard most on RNI
over the week to Friday 17 November 1972, excluding the Treiterschijf,
have been:
Marc van Amstel
presents Ochtendeditie today. International service
programmes are: 20.00 Don Allen 22.00 Brian McKenzie 24.00 Don Allen (Country’n’Western
Jamboree) 2.00 Don Allen 3.00 – 7.00 Mike Ross Sunday 19 November 1972 Marc van Amstel
reads the Dutch service news in the morning and Dick de Graaf
takes over in the afternoon. World and International service programmes today are: 10.00 Nordsee
goes DX 11.00 Brian McKenzie 14.00 Mike Ross (T Rex special) 15.00 Mike Ross 17.00 Don Allen 20.00 Mike Ross (Hitback
Show) 22.00 Don Allen 24.00 – 3.00 Brian McKenzie Brian McKenzie helps to choose the winner
of the hitback competition this evening. Mike Ross
announces that RNI will shortly be offering monthly bulletins about the
station, plus DJ photos and lifelines. Meanwhile, Don Allen says that he is
the programme controller of the International
service. For some reason the news at 21.00 is broadcast 11 minutes late. Monday 20 November 1972 With effect from today, RNI extends its
transmission time by one hour per day to 4.00am. Tonight’s programme schedule: 20.00 Mike Ross 22.00 Don Allen 1.00 – 4.00 Brian McKenzie Mike Ross interviews the Osmonds in his show. Mike also says that they are now
broadcasting with 100KW on medium wave, but the power is reduced later in the
evening to allow maintenance on one of the generators. Mike Ross says that he
is due to go off on shore leave for two weeks tomorrow and hopes that he will
be back after that. There is a Force 7 storm this evening. Tuesday 21 November 1972 There is no tender today. Marc van Amstel presents the Nico Steenbergen programme this evening, presumably because the tape has not arrived on
board the Mebo 2. Wednesday 22 November 1972 Still no tender today, as there is a
Force 8 storm. The last hour of Driemaster features
artists who will be appearing on Eddy Ready Go on television this evening. Thursday 23 November 1972 Still no tender. Mike Ross says that he
now does not expect to go on shore leave until next Tuesday. Lots of new records
played in the Mike Ross and Don Allen shows this evening. Friday 24 November 1972 Peter Holland returns from his holiday
and is back on Dorsnee Noordzee
today. Reception is poor this evening, as RNI is using its standby
transmitter until about 22.30. Tonight’s International service programmes are: 20.00 Mike Ross (Top 30) 22.00 Don Allen 24.00 Brian McKenzie (Rock’n’roll
Special) 2.00 Brian McKenzie 4.00 – 6.00 Don Allen Don Allen starts a penpal
spot in his programme at 22.45pm, which lasts for
about a quarter of an hour (including the records that are played). I heard lots of new records for the first
time on RNI during the week 18 to 24 November 1972 that were not Kanskaarten or on the Playlist. These were:
